If, for example, you want a more academic word for 'basic', just click on the word and you will see four different academic adjectives meaning 'basic'. Look at the definitions and examples to choose the best one for you.

The database allows you to explore the academic vocabulary directly. If you click on the words, you'll get definitions, examples and discussion questions to help you learn, remember and use these important words.

The practice units will help you learn and use these words in context. Each unit is based around a key academic topic and includes different exercises which should take you between one and two hours altogether. These exercises include sample answers to examination questions using the vocabulary, as well as interview questions and exercises on meaning.
