means ‘in
that way’. It’s used
in the second half of a sentence to talk about the effect of something and is
often followed by a verb in the ‘ing’ form. It can be a good way to link
cause and effect in a formal essay or report. Many
drivers slow down to look at a traffic accident,

causing long delays.
